I have three motorcycles, and I’ll admit it – I’m a fair-weather rider. If the sun isn’t shining, my bikes stay parked. This means they often sit unused for long periods, especially during the winter months. While it’s easy to focus on visible maintenance like cleaning or checking tire pressure, one vital component often gets overlooked: the battery. It’s so simple to take your battery for granted – until it dies when you’re ready to ride!

I have two TechMate Optimates and until recently an Oxford Oximiser 3X battery charger. However, after only two years use, the Oximiser abruptly stopped working. As a replacement I wanted a simple, reliable charger and maintainer. After some research, I settled on the NOCO Genius1 battery charger, which is the most affordable option in the American company’s lineup but still perfectly suited for my needs. This versatile charger works with both 6-volt and 12-volt lead-acid batteries, as well as lithium-ion batteries, making it a great fit for a variety of setups. It’s the ideal choice for ensuring my battery stays healthy while the bike is in storage.

The NOCO Genius1 was ordered online from Halfords and arrived a couple of days later. First impressions were good, the packaging alone implied premium quality as did the contents. The charger has 3 year warranty too although I’ve got a strong feeling I won’t need it!

The clamps can be detached from the leads, allowing the integrated eyelets to be connected directly to the battery terminals.

Charging my CB350F is quick and easy after directly connecting the leads to the battery terminals. I’ve just ordered an extra lead for my VFR400 too.
